BORIS BORN - Artist
Divine Remnants
Paintings, pigments, emulsion, water colours and varnish on plywood,
different sizes, 2025, 2026
The paintings in the "Divine Remnants" series radiate a raw luminosity. They appear
to emerge from the process of construction. At first glance, this can be unsettling.
Paintings that pretend to be paintings - are they paintings? Or are they closer to
illustrations, icons, maps, etc.? The works in this series are evasive, defying
categorisation, and the bewildered viewer resists them. The paintings unfold almost
without memory, almost without landscape, almost without reference to nature or
even to a second nature. This is intentional, for they are meant to become traceless.
Therefore, they are continually drained until only dry remnants remain - dead-painted
remnants that are then revived and brought to bloom. Parts are liberated, others
suppressed, a free, divine game. Strange fragments, almost empty despite their
abundance, the mere framework of Aura - the skeleton of it. Aura and little more.
They bump and veer off course.
Tropical and desolate.
Angry and swampy.
Organic and inorganic.
Immobile and ponderous.
Unstructured and misshapen.
Dawdling and steaming.
Proliferating and overgrown.
And none of the above.
These paintings are the remains of a wild organic process. Relics by all meanings -
strongly pre-representational and divinely ambiguous.Contact: E-Mail Boris.Born@yahoo.co.uk
